A
Altcoin
Altcoin stands for = Alternative Coin, referring to any crypto project launched as an alternative to Bitcoin.
ASIC
ASIC stands for = Application-Specific Integrated Circuit. Unlike general-purpose computers (CPUs/GPUs), ASIC hardware is designed to perform a specific task - in the case of Bitcoin, to solve the SHA-256 hash function. Miners with ASIC hardware make a physical commitment of energy and capital dedicated exclusively towards securing the Bitcoin network.

FUD
FUD stands for = Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt, referring to false information or negative/misleading narratives - such as "Bitcoin is bad for the environment," "Bitcoin will be banned by governments," or "Bitcoin has no intrinsic value" - Often pushed by media, critics, or opportunists to trigger panic selling.
Examples:
- Satoshi FUD: Speculation that Bitcoin's anonymous creator will return to liquidate their estimated 1.1 million BTC, collapsing the market.
- Mt. Gox FUD: Anxiety that remaining coins from the defunct exchange will be dumped on the market and crash the price.
- China FUD: News of China "banning" Bitcoin.
- Energy FUD: Concerns about the carbon footprint of Bitcoin mining.
- Quantum FUD: Quantum computers will crack Bitcoin’s encryption.
The opposite of reacting to FUD is DYOR (Do Your Own Research). Experienced "Diamond Hands" ignore the noise and focus on the network's underlying fundamentals.
